Marta Leclaire Marta Leclaire is from Matagalpa, Nicaragua and created this film in 1986 to celebrate the beauty of Nicaraguan folkloric arts and to honor the memory of community leader Luis Alfonso Velasquez Flores, the young boy who inspired the story of Juan Grillo. With a degree in early childhood education, Marta worked as a producer of educational programs for Nicaraguan television in the 1980s before moving to the U.S. and working as an educator in Oakland Public Schools. She created Juan Grillo's online presence and currently manages the website and Facebook page as well as requests for screenings and partnerships.
